Locations THE CONNORS HOUSE The scene of the crime, ironically, we're going to jail to shoot it. Filming in the old warden's house at a vacated California Youth Authority compound in Whittier, California, we will create the lived in illusion of a large family home that's been violated. It will likely require two days to prep this house and another two days to shoot in and around it, but the ample grounds, amazing period property and protected seclusion (since we will be inside the center's gates and literally under guard) allow us tremendous lattitude and cost-savings for our special effects, simulated gun-play and recreated police investitgation.
POLICE INTERROGATION, OBSERVATION & BOOKING ROOMS: The core of this film is the interrogation, where Lieutenant Kittle and Detective Young uncover Philip's secrets and break his spirit. We're fortunate to have access to an abandoned California State Unemployment Office in downtown Los Angeles @14th & Hill Streets. This facility is loaded with built-in architectural details (the drop fluorescents, internal windows and cinder block sound proofing) as well as plenty of space in which we can build. The interrogation and observation rooms, the photo booking facility and perhaps even cut-aways to the police station will all be filmed here.
Philip long's home The house where Philip's daughter drowns while he is distracted was not easily found. However, a door-to-door canvas of Woodland Hills located a number of prospects, and the owners of this ideally situated property were willing to volunteer their house and pool absolutely free.
THE COURTHOUSE STEPS At the conclusion of the film, Kittle and Young brief the press about the crime and confession, and we're still scouting the perfect spot. Options we're exploring include The First Church of Christ Scientist on Adams and Hoover, the Van Nuys County Courthouse and an office park off of Ventura Boulevard in the Valley.
NIGHT-TIME DRIVING SEQUENCES Will likely be filmed in Santa Clarita where police supervision is less expensive and the neighborhood has a polished suburban feeling.
THE MOTEL Room The location of this motel will depend upon finalizing our night-time driving site. Because both will be filmed in an evening, it's vital that they be near one another.
side of the road Where Philip is initially arrested will depend upon the finalization of our courthouse locale. Because both will be filmed in the same day, minimizing where and tear on the crew is our primary objective.
